Inbox usage limits extend your account usage limits to individual inboxes. They are useful when several teams share one account, because they cap how much of the account allowance any one inbox can use.
Prerequisites
- Your account must have inbox usage limits enabled via the Enterprise plan.
- You must be an account administrator to change a limit.
How inbox limits work
Account limits and inbox limits apply together. A message is rejected when it would exceed either the account limit or the inbox limit, whichever is reached first.
By default, an inbox has no limits of its own, so only your account limits apply. Setting an inbox limit does not change your account limits.
The following limits can be set on an inbox:
- Daily email limit - A combined limit for the emails an inbox receives and sends each day. Once the limit is reached, the inbox stops processing further emails until the count resets.
- Monthly inbound SMS limit - The number of SMS messages an inbox can receive each month. Once the limit is reached, further received messages are silently dropped.
- Monthly outbound SMS limit - The number of SMS messages an inbox can send each month. Once the limit is reached, a request to send a message returns a validation error.
Inbox usage counters reset at the same time as your account limits.
Set an inbox limit
- Open the inbox you want to configure.
- Click the Settings tab, then select Usage limits.
- Turn on the limit you want to apply, then set the limit value.
- Click Save changes and confirm.
Limits take effect immediately.
Remove an inbox limit
- Open the inbox, then go to Settings and select Usage limits.
- Turn off the limit you no longer need.
- Click Save changes and confirm.
With the limit turned off, only your global account limits apply.
