Generate email previews

You can generate previews in two ways:

• From a design, when you have the HTML for your email and want to test it before it goes anywhere else.
• From an email in an inbox, when the email already exists in another system, such as your product or your email marketing tool.

Each preview uses one credit. The number of previews you can generate each month depends on your plan. See Usage limits.

Who can generate previews

Designs and inboxes both belong to a project, and the project controls who can generate previews from them:

• From a design, you must be an Editor or Admin of the project the design belongs to, or an Account Administrator.
• From an email in an inbox, you need write access to that inbox. Every member of the project has it on inboxes that are not restricted. On a restricted inbox you need a Write or Admin role on the inbox, or you must be an Editor or Admin of its project.

A Viewer on a restricted inbox can open previews that other people have generated, but cannot generate new ones. See Permissions.

Generate previews from a design

A design is a standalone piece of email HTML that you test in Mailosaur. Use designs to check the appearance of an email while you create or change it.

The Designer shows the designs in the project you are working in. A new design belongs to that project, and stays there.

To generate previews from a design:

1. Go to the Designer from the main menu.
2. Click New Design.
3. Name your design and click Create.
4. Paste the HTML you want to test into the editor.
5. In the Previews panel, click Generate previews.
6. Select the email clients and devices you want to preview. To select a group you use often, click one of your presets.
7. Click Generate previews.

Your previews are ready in moments. They appear on the See results tab.

Generate previews from an email in an inbox

When your email is built in another system, send a copy of it to a Mailosaur inbox. Many email marketing tools have a "send a test email" option you can use for this.

To generate previews from an email in an inbox:

1. Select Inboxes from the main menu, and open one of your inboxes.
2. In the top-right of the inbox, copy the inbox's email address.
3. Send your email to that address.
4. When the email arrives, click it to open the email viewer.
5. Select the Previews tab, and click Generate previews.
6. Select the email clients and devices you want to preview. To select a group you use often, click one of your presets.
7. Click Generate previews.

Your previews are ready in moments. They appear on the See results tab.

Generate previews using the API

You can generate email previews in the Mailosaur Dashboard, as described above. To generate previews using the Mailosaur API, contact our sales team.
